Contests and Tastings

Drinking beer is fun, but why not make it a little more interesting?

  • Organizing

Beer Club Hub offers a complete contest management system so you and your crew can engage and a little friendly competition. A Contest is made of one or more tastings. At each tasting, your Club members can provide beers to be sampled. Members can then score each beer in a number of categories. Your scores accumulate over time and we'll show you the results for each contest and tasting. A Contest can last days, months, or years. Its all up to you on how you run your Contests and Tastings.

  • Beer Clubs

Some of our Clubs hold monthly meetings. At each meeting, members are required to bring a beer of their choosing. Each monthly meeting is a new tasting and Contests usually last one year. So there are 12 tastings per contest (one for each month). At the end of the year, there is one winner (yea) and one loser (boo). The next year starts a new Contest. Of course, your club could meet every other month or every quarter - its all up to you.

  • Beer Exchanges

Some of our Clubs aren't really clubs at all. They are just a few people who get together once a year for an annual beer exchange. Everyone brings a case of beer, and all the beers are scored in a single day. In this case, there is one contest and one tasting. The next beer exchange is a new contest and new tasting. Of course, your club could have any number of one-day exchanges throughout the year. Each would be its own Contest.

  • Tournaments

This one is for all you March Madness fans out there. In this example, each tasting represents a conference round. The "Sweet Sixteen of Beers", for example, would be 4 tastings with 4 beers each. The top two beers in each tasting would move on to the "Elite Eight" consisting of 2 tastings with 4 beers each. And so on. The highest ranking beer of the final round is the winner. It's up to you on how many beers you have in each round and how many rounds you have. This is a great Contest to hold if you have too many beers for everyone to drink.

Blind Tastings

Each tasting can be setup as a "blind tasting". A Blind Tasting is when you taste each beer without knowing its make or name. If you select this option, each beer will be assigned a number by Beer Club Hub. Only the member designated as the Contest Administrator will be able to see which beers are assigned what numbers. At the beginning of the tasting, the Contest Administrator will be responsible for collecting the beers, pouring them in numbered containers, and distributing to members without their knowledge of which beers are in which containers. The Members will score the beers using the beer's number instead of by the beer's name. Beer Club Hub takes care of hiding the beer names on the scoring pages, leader boards, and favorites pages until the Contest Administrator closes the tasting. Once the Scoring Session is closed, the beer names are revealed.

allow repeat beers

Allow Repeat Beers

Like variety? Contests can be setup to prevent the same beer from being entered twice. You can even set this global option on your Club, so you will never score the same beer twice... ever...

register multiple beers per person

Allow a Member to Register More than One Beer

This option can prevent Members from submitting more than one beer per tasting. Some Clubs like this while others allow their Members to submit as many beers as they want.

register own beers

Allow Members to Register Beers

This option is good for those Clubs who don't really trust their members! You can prevent members from registering their own beers. If you choose this option, the Contest Administrator is the only one who can register new beers for the tasting. This is good if you have some special restrictions on your beers that we haven't thought of!
